Celebrating World Ecology Day

(Day-1) Morning- Sunrise And The Tides, Beach Walk

The first day of the event started with a beach walk to the Markandi beach .About 35 people participated in it .As we meandered through the forest towards the beach, our group engaged in lively discussions and conversations about the dramatic shift in ecosystems. We traversed a diverse landscape, transitioning from lush cashew plantations to fragrant pine habitats, then to resilient succulent-filled dunes, and finally, to the rhythmic tides. The fauna also changed just as remarkably from the colorful Kingfisher between the Cashew groves to pine-dwelling squirrels and succulent dwelling geckos and snakes finally to seagulls near the shore .From soil to sand, every member of our group actively participated, sharing insights and observations about this remarkable ecological journey. The coastal area was shielded from the fury of sea tides and hazardous situations by a vibrant and dense tree belt, providing a natural defense mechanism that safeguards human habitats and ecosystems.

(Day-1) Morning- Sunrise And The Tides, Beach Walk

Sunrise at Markandi Beach

The World Ecology Day celebration, themed "Only One Earth," commenced with an early morning beach walk on Day 1. Around 35 participants gathered at Markandi Beach, setting out on a journey through diverse habitats. As the sun rose over the horizon, the group made its way through a series of environments, moving from vibrant cashew plantations to pine-laden paths, succulent-filled dunes, and finally the sandy shore. Each transition offered fresh insights into the ecological diversity of the coastal landscape.

Observing Habitat Transitions and Ecosystem Dynamics

As participants navigated through the unique habitats, lively discussions arose about the distinct flora and fauna along the way. In the cashew groves, colorful kingfishers flitted between branches, adding bright splashes of color to the dense greenery. Upon reaching the pine habitats, we encountered squirrels darting up tree trunks, while geckos and snakes were seen weaving through succulent plants in the sandy dunes. Finally, the sight of seagulls soaring over the beach symbolized the shift to coastal life.

Exploring Nature's Coastal Defense and Biodiversity

The coastal ecosystem displayed a remarkable defense mechanism, with a dense tree belt shielding the shore from high tides and potential hazards. This vibrant vegetative barrier plays a critical role in safeguarding both human settlements and the local biodiversity.

  • Cashew Groves and Kingfishers: The cashew groves, abundant and green, provided food and shelter for local kingfishers, underscoring the interconnectedness of plant and animal life.
  • Pine Habitats with Squirrels: These habitats, with towering pines, supported small mammals like squirrels that contribute to seed dispersal and forest health.
  • Succulent Dunes and Geckos: The drought-tolerant succulents create a micro-habitat for reptiles, showcasing natures adaptability in semi-arid conditions.
  • Coastal Shore and Seagulls: The presence of seagulls illustrated the beach's role in supporting a unique coastal ecosystem vital for both resident and migratory species.

This interactive session was both refreshing and educational, allowing participants to observe firsthand the intricate beauty and resilience of nature. The event underscored the importance of maintaining diverse ecosystems and inspired a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
