On October 20, 2019, Oasis embarked on its inaugural nature walk to the proposed IISER Berhampur campus site in Laudigam, guided by faculty advisors Dr. Bodhisatta Nandy and Dr. Jose Sebastian. Students, new to organizing such activities, embraced the spontaneous exploration, wandering through the vibrant ecosystem near Garampeta Beach. Along the way, they discovered rare plants, unusual insects, and fascinating fungi, engaging in lively discussions about biodiversity. The day ignited a vision for a future campus immersed in nature, fostering both academic and environmental pursuits. This walk marked the beginning of many shared adventures, as Oasis members bonded over their love for the natural world.

Setting Out: The Early Days of Oasis
On October 20, 2019, Oasis embarked on its very first nature walk, setting off with excitement to the proposed IISER Berhampur campus site in Laudigam. Guided by the clubs faculty advisors, Dr. Bodhisatta Nandy and Dr. Jose Sebastian, students eagerly dove into this hands-on exploration. Though new to organizing such activities, they embraced the spontaneity of discovery, with no rigid plan in sightjust a shared enthusiasm for learning from nature.
Discovering Natures Hidden Treasures
As they meandered through the lush greenery near Garampeta Beach, students were captivated by the areas vibrant ecosystem. Curious conversations filled the air as they stumbled upon rare plants, spotted unusual insects, and marveled at fungi growing in unexpected spots. Some students confidently shared ecological insights, while others simply enjoyed the beauty around them, chuckling at their own attempts to identify mysterious species. The walk became a lively, unscripted lesson in biodiversity that left everyone with new questionsand a few laughs.
A Vision for the Future
By the end of the day, the experience had sparked more than just ecological curiosityit left students envisioning a future where this scenic landscape could be their campus and research ground. This first outing set the stage for many more adventures to come, as Oasis members bonded over their shared love for the environment.
