Sonepur Beach, located approximately 31 kilometers south of Berhampur, is a picturesque destination that attracts a large number of tourists. However, this beautiful beach is increasingly impacted by human activities, facing issues such as overcrowding, localized garbage disposal, and the accumulation of plastic waste. The once pristine shoreline is now marred by litter, threatening the natural beauty and ecosystem of the area.In response to the growing environmental concerns at Sonepur Beach, students from IISER Berhampur recently organized a cleanliness drive to help restore its natural beauty. Equipped with gloves and eco-friendly bags, the students dedicated their time to clearing plastic waste and litter scattered along the shore. Their efforts not only aimed to clean the beach but also to raise awareness among locals and tourists about the importance of preserving this precious environment. Through this drive, the IISER Berhampur students demonstrated their commitment to environmental stewardship and encouraged others to join in protecting the beauty of Sonepur Beach.

Sonepur Beach: A Natural Gem Under Threat
Sonepur Beach, a stunning location approximately 31 kilometers south of Berhampur, is a tourism hotspot recognized by Odisha Tourism. Known for its serene beauty and unique coastal charm, the beach attracts a steady stream of visitors. Unfortunately, this attention has come at a cost, as litter and wasteboth intentional and accidentalcontinue to accumulate along the shore. Over time, this pollution has disrupted the natural landscape, impacting the local ecosystem and detracting from the beach's natural allure.
Oasis Takes Action for a Cleaner Coastline
In response to these environmental challenges, the Oasis club from IISER Berhampur organized a dedicated cleanliness drive on January 18-19, 2020. Faculty and students came together with a shared goal: to help restore Sonepur Beachs pristine beauty. Equipped with gloves and eco-friendly collection bags, the team took to the shore, gathering piles of waste and disposing of it responsibly. Their diligent efforts were a testament to Oasiss commitment to conservation and environmental action, setting a strong example of community engagement.
