Introduction to the "Only One Earth" Program
From June 1 to June 5, 2023, the Oasis Club of the Indian Institute of Education and Research, Berhampur, hosted a five-day celebration titled Only One Earth in honor of World Ecology Day. This comprehensive program featured a series of events aimed at raising awareness about environmental sustainability and fostering a deeper connection with nature among students and faculty. Designed to engage participants across various interactive formats, the events included nature walks, art competitions, group discussions, and expert talks, all contributing to an enriched understanding of ecological issues. The program underscored the message that our planet's health is a collective responsibility, highlighting the importance of education and community engagement in driving sustainable change.
Interactive Events for Environmental Awareness
The Only One Earth program encompassed several engaging activities tailored to raise environmental consciousness. The events began with a Nature Walk around the campus, offering participants an opportunity to observe the rich biodiversity of their immediate surroundings. The following event was a Poster Making Competition titled Colors of Mother, where students expressed their appreciation for natures beauty and diversity through art. Another event, Chirps About Greenery, featured a community discussion on the psychology behind environmental attitudes and behaviors, encouraging participants to reflect on their connection to nature. Each activity allowed students to explore ecological topics through hands-on, creative, and intellectual engagement.
Thought-Provoking Discussions and Expert Insights
As the program continued, participants took part in a thought-provoking Group Discussion called Rage of the Guardians, which encouraged open debate on sustainability challenges and potential solutions. This event fostered critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving among participants, who presented arguments on key environmental topics. The grand finale of the program was a talk by the esteemed Green Man of Odisha, Shri Sudhir Rout, a renowned environmentalist known for his dedication to afforestation and ecological conservation across Odisha. His insights on practical sustainability and grassroots activism inspired the audience, emphasizing that individual and collective actions are essential for creating a sustainable future.
The Only One Earth program successfully united the institutes community in a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
