About Mangalajodi
Mangalajodi, an old village in the Khurda area, is a superb environment where wildlife and nature coexist in perfect harmony. It is a birdwatcher's paradise, with breathtaking views of 1.5 million birds during peak season. These global wetlands, which are home to a wide diversity of birds and thousands of migratory birds from all over the world, have been designated as an international bird protection area.
Preservation of the Wetland
This wetland is being preserved thanks to the collaboration of local and governmental institutions. Fishing is an important source of income for the locals, however a rise in fishing has resulted in a stagnant fish pool, threatening the ecosystem's balance. Its great biological diversity and diverse avian life excite students and researchers.
Birding Excursion
One of the highlights of our Mangalajodi birding excursion was seeing the severely endangered sarus crane and the purple swamphen, which is only seen in Mangalajodi. We also realised the significance of conservation efforts to protect these wonderful animals.
