brief
This Study presents an in-depth analysis of the ecological changes within the campus of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Berhampur, focusing on the period from 2018 to 2025. The study leverages satellite imagery from 2018, 2022, 2023, and 2025, utilizing supervised classification in RGIS for a comparative assessment of land use and vegetation changes. Significant alterations, including deforestation and the loss of native flora due to construction activities, were observed initially. However, a notable recovery is evident in more recent data, with a marked reduction in deforestation and the revival of vegetation. The report highlights key areas of intervention, including planted regions and ecological restoration efforts, showcasing the role of the campus community in fostering environmental sustainability. Based on satellite imagery and images sourced from Google Maps, visual comparisons provide insights into the dynamic transformation of the landscape. Additionally, student anecdotal accounts offer a personal perspective on the campus's evolving ecological health. The findings contribute to the broader discourse on campus sustainability and the role of citizen science in ecological restoration. This work not only serves as a testament to the positive changes within IISER Berhampur but also acts as a model for similar institutions grappling with environmental degradation.
