The Student Mess Committee (SMC) is an autonomous, student-led body responsible for the efficient functioning and oversight of the campus mess facility. As the mess is a critical component of student life, the SMC plays a pivotal role in ensuring that its operations remain transparent, accountable, and aligned with the interests of the student community.

Operating under the broader framework of the Student Affairs Council (SAC), the SMC is granted significant operational autonomy. It functions as the primary liaison between the student body and the Institute Mess Committee, working closely with the Associate Dean/Dean of Student Affairs (A-DoSA/DoSA) to address any administrative or operational issues related to the mess. All significant decisions and updates are shared with the President of SAC to maintain coordination and institutional consistency.

The committee is envisioned to play a key administrative role in the event of a future transition to a Student Cooperative Mess model, thereby supporting the institute’s vision for enhanced student participation and self-governance.

Structure of the SMC

The SMC is governed by an independent constitution. It comprises 15 elected student representatives and one Secretary.

The Student Mess Committee (SMC) is responsible for overseeing and monitoring daily mess operations, serving as the voice of the student body in all mess-related matters, and acting as a communication bridge between the Institute Mess Committee and the students. It is empowered to make independent operational decisions while maintaining transparency with the SAC leadership. Additionally, the SMC plays a key role in planning and potentially executing a Student Cooperative Mess in the future
