The Student Mess Committee (SMC) is an autonomous, student-led body responsible for the efficient functioning and oversight of the campus mess facility. As the mess is a critical component of student life, the SMC ensures that its operations remain transparent, accountable, and aligned with the interests of the student community.
Operating under the broader framework of the Student Affairs Council (SAC), the SMC functions as the primary liaison between students and the Institute Mess Committee. It works closely with the Associate Dean/Dean of Student Affairs (A-DoSA/DoSA) to resolve administrative and operational issues while keeping the SAC President informed.
The committee also supports the institute’s long-term vision of increased student participation, including the potential transition to a Student Cooperative Mess model.
The SMC is governed by an independent constitution and consists of 15 elected student representatives and one Secretary. It oversees daily mess operations, represents student concerns, maintains transparency in decision-making, and acts as a communication bridge between students and the administration.
