Students Welfare Council

Students Welfare Sub-council

Directly headed by the Secretary of the Student Welfare Secretary (SWS) and coming under the umbrella of Office, Student Affairs and Dean of Student Affairs (DoSA), the general work of the Student Welfare Council is to handle cases of misconduct, indiscipline or discrimination within the student body, and to tackle these with appropriate fairness and professionalism. The Secretary and their council will have the task of enforcing and maintaining discipline wherever necessary while maintaining the decorum of an institute of national importance.

Transport and Election Committee

The SWS coordinates the transport demands of the students to the Transport Office. This is done through data collection via Google Form, and a schedule formulation that gets sent to the office in the form of a requisition form. Transport may be needed for cultural events, sports tournaments, pickup or drop after semester ends, and so on. The isolated nature of the campus necessitates that transportation is properly looked upon.

The SWS and the President will also draw up dates for the next SAC election, subject to the ending of the previous SAC’s tenure. They will form an election committee with the faculty, Computer center, SA office and advisors to conduct the election.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities

Logistical requirements for fests, events, and other special days lie with the SWS. They also have the responsibility of ensuring rules and regulations are not flouted by the students in any way. Potential threats like wildlife, lack of lighting, lack of water or electricity may also be reported by the SWS to the authorities. Fluctuations in the wifi network may also be communicated by the SWS to the computer center.

Furthermore, extension of library timings, security arrangements for events, and hostel discipline (including no ragging) need to be supervised by the SWS in coordination with the caretakers and hostel wardens. The SWS may be the link between students and the SGRC in highlighting sensitive issues to the authorities.
